Piping Inverness the European Pipe Band Championships will be held in Bught Park Inverness for a three-year run from 2019-2021. We hope to attract thousands of pipers and drummers from far and wide.
With pipe band and drum majors competing across a number of grades, we are looking forward to a stunning spectacle of colour as well as amazing playing!
Gates to Piping Inverness will be open at 9.00am.
The Piping Competition is expected to start at 10.00am and the Highland Dancing Competition is expected to start at 10.30am.
Pipe bands from around the world
We are delighted to be welcoming bands from all over the world. Inverness will be hosting bands and often their supporters from as far afield as Australia and Oman as well as bands from other European countries such as Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands, Switzerland and the Republic of Ireland.
In the centre of Bught Park, will be the main arena, split into four different competition areas. Drum Majors will also compete in the main area while a Highland Dancing competition will take place in a dedicated stage area in a different part of the park.
The public entrance gates will open for entry at 9.00am.
Grand Stand seating
There is a seated grand stand in front of Ring 1 and Ring 2 where tickets will be available to purchase on the day of Piping Inverness at a cost of £5 (there are no concessions for the grand stand). Seats are limited and come on a first come, first serve basis.
The Pipe Bands
There are several different grades of pipe bands competing at The Europeans, from Grade 1, the highest standard of players, through Grades 2, 3A, 3B, 4A and 4B, and the under-18s Grades: the Juvenile and Novice Juvenile bands, with the newest players competing as Novice Juveniles. On these grades, only the Pipe Major can be over 18.
There is no upper limit to the number that can perform in a pipe band, but there is a minimum, which changes dependent on the grade the band performs in.
Entertainments for all the family
There will also be a wide variety of other entertainments to suit all ages and interests. These will include two large, separate areas of stalls, a Craft and Retail Village and a Food and Drink Village. Each will have stalls within a marquee and outdoor pitches, and will be well signed and accessible to visitors and competitors. All showcasing the finest crafts and produce Inverness and the surrounding area has to offer.
The entire event area within Bught Park is licensed allowing adult spectators to enjoy a relaxed drink whilst watching the bands.
